April 20th, 2013 - Our new children came home, four Golden Sex Linked 16-18 week old pullets and a beautiful and gentle rooster. My husband was not very enthusiastic but as you can see by the picture below, he changed his mind as we both soon realized how much personality and smarts these little "bird brains" actually possess.
May 2nd, 2013 - Our first egg! Small with a tiny yolk but a big surprise from such young birds.
June 28th, 2013 - We are now getting 4 eggs a day most days, sometimes 3. A few weeks ago we found a cache of 18 eggs in a pile and hidden behind a garden card. They must have dated back to the early days of laying.
You will not believe the egg one of our girls laid a couple days ago. It weighed in at 4ozs. To put it in perspective, jumbo eggs weigh an average of 2.5ozs. That poor hen must not have had much fun laying it. Can't wait to crack it open for an omelet and see what's inside.
