Dog Information

Lola became a member of our family when she was eight months old. She is now 6 years old and a big joy if you can ignore the two little curly tails from the two piggies which inhabit her head and every now and then stick out of her ears. My grandmother used to say that about me when I was a kid so I sympathize with her.

A HAPPY DOG'S BEDTIME PRAYER

Now I lay me down to sleep,

The queen-size bed is soft and deep.

I sleep right in the center groove,

My human being can hardly move.

I've trapped her legs,

she's tucked in tight,

and here is where I pass the night.

No one disturbs me or dares intrude,

Til morning comes and I want food.

I sneak up slowly and it begins,

My nibbles on my human's chin.

she wakes up slowly and smiles and shouts,

"You darling beast!

Just cut it out!"

But morning's here and its time to play,

I always seem to get my way.

So thank you Lord, for giving me,

this human person that I see

The one who holds me tight

and shares her bed with me at night!

We live on a farm on both sides of a dirt road with almost no traffic. This made it very difficult to train her to avoid the road. We solved our problem with an invisible fence . I strongly suggest it to anyone in a similar situation. You can use this type of fence with cats as well and some say that cats are even easier to train. See other wireless options.

For years I dreaded trimming our dogs nails. Well, the dogs dreaded it too; until I found Dawn's page on the net. It was a life saver. When we got Lola, I purchased a Dremel and Lola and I have been very happy with it. Dawn's instructions and pictures were an invaluable help. Unfortunately, Dawn passed away as a result of a serious car injury. I had to replace Dawn's link with the most helpful U-Tube video I could find. The Dremel comes with many accessories which in addition to trimming dogs nails can be used around the house for a variety of jobs. The Dremel I bought is quite powerful, 5,000 -35,000/min with 10 settings. I don't use it higher than the second setting as it would make too much noise and scare Lola, it would also get too hot. You might see some cheaper and lighter trimmers at pet stores or advertised on TV but they are too slow and not powerful enough to do a large dog's nails.

Shortly after being spayed Lola experienced a "false pregnancy". She really thought that she had become a mother and took very good care of her puppies (a bunch of fuzzy balls she had received as toys). She would gather them close to her and carry them around the house. It was really fun to watch.

Our Granddog, Princess, took a very long trip to Montreal for Christmas. Her mom had bought her a "booster seat" which came in very handy. It made the trip more pleasant for everyone and safer for Princess. She just loved her new bed and took a nice long nap on her way home when she wasn't in her mom's lap.
